Friday Poetry Blogging

Mid-August at Sourdough Mountain Lookout

~ Gary Snyder

Down valley a smoke haze
Three days heat, after five days rain
Pitch glows on the fir-cones
Across rocks and meadows
Swarms of new flies.

I cannot remember things I once read
A few friends, but they are in cities.
Drinking cold snow-water from a tin cup
Looking down for miles
Through high still air.

  1. Thanks for the Snyder – a reminder that I possess most of his works; packed away now in boxes for some time after the last move.

You provided a cosmic reminder to unpack and read/remember how it was when I was younger.

    Thanks again.

I thought that photo looked like home! (I hail from Olympia, WA). Live in New England now, would love to be home. Thank you so much for your brilliant writing…your blog has helped me, inspired me, and done more for me than you could possibly know. If you have an email address, I would very much like to continue my thank you to you…
