OK, I mostly don’t “talk” about Sunday Ballet Blogging because some things, and I believe that dance is one of them, are better experienced without the filter that “talk” provides. But Bolt is the only ballet that I know that deals with industrial espionage and Communism. Bolt also takes on the problem of laziness and how a collectivist society might deal with that issue. (NO ONE talks about how capitalism should or could deal with this issue.)
And I love this section of the ballet because the dancer has to dance as if he were drunk, even as he pulls off some pretty intense classical ballet moves.
Hopefully, the next week or two will feature a bit more of Shostakovich’s work.
