I keep thinking of poor old Father de Chardin, imagining that the noosphere would be somewhere up in space, when, all the while it was, as every fairy tale promised, right under his feet. “And you who seek to know Me, know that the seeking and yearning will avail you not, unless you know the Mystery: for if that which you seek, you find not within yourself, you will never find it without.
For behold, I have been with you from the beginning, and I am That which is attained at the end of all desire.”
I love Dr. Stamets, but he’s wrong about one thing. He says that we lack the language skills to communicate with Nature. No, we don’t. Druids, Witches, Pagans, we all spend all day every day communicating with Nature. “We” (meaning 21st Century First World peoples) don’t lack the language skills; we simply don’t want to believe in them. Or in the Noosphere. But they’re real, and every child knows there’s something magical about a ring of mushrooms. It has been with us from the beginning and is that That which is attained at the end of all desire.
