Whether you’ve been doing these workings from the start or are just joining us, thank you so much. The work of the Resistance is both mundane and magical — and the Resistance is working.
Today, we’re going to work with the energy of America’s immigrants.
Now’s probably a good time to remind everyone to check/refresh the wards on your home or wherever you do this work. Be sure that you’re rested, grounded, and in a comfortable position.
Anchor yourself firmly to your landbase. Notice a small detail that will call you back when this working is finished.
Ground and center. Cast a circle.
As you move astrally to our American plain on the astral plane, you can see again the safe hillock where you do your work. You can see the five giant banners, shining in the sky: Walden Pond, the Underground Railroad, the Cowboy, the Salmon, and Lady Liberty. Do they seem more defined since we began our work? Do they have anything special to tell you this week?
For a few moments, just sit on your hillock and allow yourself to become comfortable. This place should be feeling very real to you by now; we’ve been working together to create it for months and months. Turn and look at the Statue of Liberty banner. As it grows larger and brighter, remember that the Statue of Liberty stands on Ellis Island, which for decades was the entryway into America for millions of immigrants. Flowing like light from the banner, you can sense the determination and optimism that those millions brought with them. You sense how their many, many customs, languages, religious beliefs, and cuisines have shaped America, making it stronger, more diverse, more vibrant. You sense all of the obstacles that they had to overcome, both to reach America’s shores and, then, to survive in a new land. Perhaps most strongly, you sense their commitment to giving their children a better life.
Allow all of that energy to swirl around you and lift you up into the air. Look out across our entire country and see waves of immigrants moving into cities and town, onto farms, into the mountains, up into Alaska, down into Hawaii, everywhere. See them grounding, putting down roots, transforming themselves and their children into Americans. You may see your own ancestors who came here looking for a better life. You may see yourself, still following customs, growing and preparing food, and using words that those ancestors brought as gifts to America.
Reach out and gather some of that energy into your hands. Hold it like a glowing ball of warmth. Charge it with feelings of brotherhood, empathy, appreciation for other people and other ways of living. When it is full of power, toss it into the air and release it. Allow the swirling energy from Ellis Island to carry it to wherever it is needed most. Then, slowly descend to your hillock.
Rest a moment, reflecting, perhaps, on an immigrant you have known or on your own immigrant ancestors. You may wish to sing, or dance, or speak your gratitude to them. Listen to see if they have something to communicate to you.
And know that you are not working alone. The Resistance — both magical and in all of its mundane (phone banking, check writing, representative calling, letter writing, canvassing, voting, volunteering, tutoring, restoring wetlands, growing plants for bees) manifestations — is huge. Know that you are a powerful worker of magic, rooted in your very own landbase, working with the strong archetypes of this land, assisted by countless unseen others who labor in league with you. You are brave and growing braver. Your magic and your practical workings can make the difference.
Return to your own body, your own landbase. Open your eyes. Rub your face, move your arms and legs. Notice the detail you selected to call you back from the astral. Open your circle. Drink something, maybe some pomegranate juice or coconut milk. If you like, have something to eat, maybe some summer squash or a plum.
During the course of this week, you may want to visit the bannered prairie several times in order to strengthen its presence on the astral. You may want to repeat this working several times. You may want to find a picture of your ancestors or of Ellis Island and place it on your altar. You may want to journal about it. Are you inspired to make any art? Can you sit beside a warm fire, or light incense, or stare into a candle? What actions are you inspired to take for the Resistance? If you’re willing, please share in comments what happened and how this working went.

Two notes: First, we must acknowledge that, rather than immigrating here full of hope, many people were brought to America against their will and enslaved. They, too, brought their customs, cuisines, and culture and contributed them to the America we know today. Also, the First Peoples, who came to North America across the Bering Land Bridge, suffered greatly when Europeans began immigrating to North America. They, too, contributed their words, farming and fishing practices, ideas about government, and so much more to the America we know today. America still needs to work through the “original sins” that were committed against those groups.
Second, beginning next week, the Magical Battle for America posts will be appearing on Sundays, rather than Saturdays. I hope that schedule will work for everyone; it will give me a bit more time to prepare these posts.
