The Magical Battle for America 9.30.18

Now’s probably a good time to remind everyone to check/refresh the wards on your home or wherever you do this work.  (No, really.  You really need to do this.)  Be sure that you’re rested, grounded, and in a comfortable position.  Maybe wrap up in a blanket or cloak and grasp a stone or talisman that matters to you.  Grow your roots, send them deep into the soil, let them intertwine and grow small hairs to attach to the mycelia in your own landbase.

Breathe.

Anchor yourself firmly to your landbase.  Does your landbase have anything to tell you today?  Notice a small detail that will call you back when this working is finished.

Ground and center.  Cast a circle.

Breathe.

As you move to our American plain on the astral plane, you can see again the safe hillock where you do your work.  You can see the five giant banners, shining in the sky: Walden Pond, the Underground Railroad, the Cowboy, the Salmon, and Lady Liberty.  Do they seem more defined since we began our work? Do they have anything special to tell you this week?

For a few moments, just sit on your hillock and allow yourself to become comfortable.  This place should be feeling very real to you by now; we’ve been working together to create it for months and months.  What’s become familiar to you?  A tuft of prairie grass?  Buffalo off in the distance?  The scent of sand carried on the wind?  You’ve been involved in a months-long magical working here, joined with magic workers from across the globe.  Feel your connection to this place on the astral plane. It is always here for you, always a source of strength.

As you gaze towards the Northwest, you see the Salmon Banner growing in the sky.  It stretches and ripples, growing to fill the entire sky.  It becomes three-dimensional and you can step into it, shape-shifting as you do.

You are a salmon swimming lazily in the Pacific Ocean.  You have been here for several years, eating, growing, and developing strong muscles.  But now you feel a call to return to the place where you were born.  You want to have children and you want them to hatch in the icy stream where you hatched.  You swim back towards the mouth of the river, leaving the salty water of the Pacific behind for the fresh river water that calls to you.  Around you, other salmon are making the same trip; indeed, there are so many of you that, at times, you are jostled and bumped along.

But as you swim, you see a net spread across a narrow stretch of the river.  If you swim into the net, you will never get home, never spawn, never do the one thing you must do.  The net makes you really angry!  How will you use that anger?  Will you dive deeper than you’ve ever dived and try to swim under the net?  Will you hold your breath, jump up into the air, and try to leap over the net?  Will you throw your body against it, along with the bodies of your brothers and sisters, trying to tear through it?

Decide and go for it!  Give it everything you’ve got!  Do not let this obstacle stand in your way!

As you look back at the net from the other side you know that you will reach your objective.  Like your parents and theirs before them, going back centuries and centuries, you will return home and spawn.  Your children will hatch in that safe, secure bit of river.

Now, slowly, shape-shift back and step out of the banner.  Return to your safe, comfortable hillock.  What lessons did your bring back from your time as Salmon?  What did Salmon teach you about using your anger, about facing obstacles, about focusing on your goal?  How will you apply this learning to the Magical Battle for America?  Do you have a goal that you will pursue between now and Election Day, Nov. 6th?  Can you make a chant about it?  Can you visualize a sigil?  Can you make a promise to your Goddesses or Gods?  Whatever your objective, know that you have the strength and determination of Salmon deep in your soul.

Breathe.

Slowly, come down from your hillock and begin to walk back to your own landbase.

Open your eyes.  Rub your arms and face.  Notice the detail that you selected to call yourself back.  Drink something, maybe ice water or green tea with honey.  Have something to eat, maybe an apple or pumpkin spice cookies.  Maybe you can set up a small altar dedicated to your objective.  You may want to repeat this working several times this week.  You may want to journal about it.  Are you inspired to make any art? If you’re willing, please share in comments what happened and how this working went.
